Dear Parents, Based on the changing provincial and local response to COVID-19, the CBE has given us direction to postpone Parent-Teacher Conferences scheduled for March 19/20, 2020. All CBE schools have been given direction to postpone or cancel events that include populations from other schools and/or parents or other community members, such as Parent-Teacher Interviews, celebrations of learning, drama/musical performances, dances, athletic competitions, etc. This decision is effective from Mar. 12 until the end of March break (April 6 th ). This decision will be revisited during March break to determine whether events should be rescheduled. Events outside of school hours that include the regular student and staff population of the school (school clubs, practices, etc) and scheduled field trips may continue at this time.   I know this may be disappointing news. Important Dates to remember:  March 18th - Crazy hair day March 19th and 20th - Parent teacher conferences.  Parents are required to book Parent Conferences online.  If for any reason you are unable to do so, we will be happy to help you in the office.  I look forward to meeting with you and sharing your child's progress! March 20th- Non-instructional day March 20th - April 5th - Spring Break! No classes April 6th - Classes resume  This week we have our basketball residency with Dave Singleton.   Dave is a former Marquette NCAA Division 1 player. He has also played professional basketball overseas and now trains here in Calgary. Our students have really enjoyed learning some serious basketball skills and are looking forward to the rest of the week with him! 

February is flying by and we have been doing a lot of amazing work in our classroom! We have been working hard in our math groups on addition and subtraction problems. Students have also been learning many games to solidify their basic facts. Ask your child to tell you some of the games they have learned.  We had an in class field trip with Teacher's Pet. Scuba Charlotte came to our classroom and took us on an ocean adventure to explore our five senses. Students used their sense of touch to find mystery objects buried in sand, they identified mystery smells and tastes, identified ocean sounds, learned about how sea lions use their senses, acted out scenarios with small seals and built an optical illusion craft.  We are reading 'The One and Only Ivan' as a class and our class is loving it! Happy New Year! I hope you all had a wonderful break. It was a short week for us and we started it off by making some new year's resolutions. Ask your child to tell you what they wrote about! Important dates for this month:  Swimming will be taking place on Jan 20 - 24th from 10:30-11:15am. For time saving purposes, please ask your child to were their bathing suit underneath their clothes in the morning. Please send a towel, and plastic bag with them to put their wet clothes into afterwards. For long hair, please send a hair tie to pull hair back during lessons. January 16th - Class picture day  January 31st - PD Day - No school for students.  Have a great weekend. Stay warm out there!

We have been up to many fun things in the last few weeks! We have been learning to code with Ozobots and students were given a design challenge to turn their first names into a code for the Ozobot to follow. They had a target rubric which they followed to ensure they were on the right track. This was so fun and we will send home the final designs so parents can take a look at them and talk about them with their child.  We decorated gingerbread houses on Wednesday. They were asked to make a plan for their gingerbread house before they went ahead to decorate. Students had so much fun with this activity.  In Science, we have started our unit on hot and cold temperatures. Students are learning that thermometers provide a helpful way to measure and describe the hotness and coldness of things. This week:  Sound Kreation Residency -This week we have Sound Kreations coming in to our school to teach our students some dance moves during our Phys. Ed time. Ask your child to share what they have learned with you. Parent- Teacher Conferences  -We have interviews coming up this week on Thursday 4:00pm - 7:15pm and Friday 8:00am - 12:00pm. Please ensure that you have signed up for a 15 minute time slot to come and meet with me about your child's progress. Kernels Fundraiser - Kernels fundraiser forms came home on Friday. Fun Lunch - If you ordered McDonalds Fun Lunch for your child it will be this Thursday. Please ensure you still send a snack to school with your child. Home Reading - Please ensure that you are reading with your child each day for at least 15 minutes. The home reading books students are bringing home are meant to be easy for them to read and spark a love for reading. After your child is done reading, you may ask them questions to check compreh...

We have started buddies with Ms. Gartner's 4/5 classroom! Our class was so excited to spend time with their big buddy and make some poppy's for our Remembrance Day wreath. Here are some pictures of our students hard at work. A reminder that our Remembrance Day assembly will be taking place this Friday November 8th at 10:20am. 

Halloween is coming up on October 31st! We will be doing some Halloween activities in the afternoon on October 31st. If your child wishes to dress up for this day please send their costume in their backpack and they can get changed at lunch. Please remember not to send any costumes with weapons or masks to school. In the afternoon, we will be watching a Halloween movie and having some treats. If you wish to send treats, please send enough for 23 students.  Some treat ideas: Vegetable/fruit platter, cheese and crackers, cookies etc.  Some important dates to remember this month:  Oct. 28 Photo Re-takes Oct. 31 Students may bring their costumes to wear in the afternoon only. Our fall concert will be taking place on Thursday, October 3rd! Please arrive at the school by 5:45pm and drop your child off in our classroom. (Room. 7) You may then proceed to the gym to wait for our performances to begin. I have attached a copy of our invitation. 

Healthy Hunger order are due on Friday, October 4th. If you would like to order Little Ceasars for your child on October 10th, please fill out the online form and order by Friday. Here are the instructions:

Our Terry Fox run was so much fun! Our students were so proud of themselves for getting out there, even though the weather was a bit chilly. Thank you for all of the generous donations and helping to keep Terry's legacy alive. On Friday, our class started drawing Terry Fox portraits and so far they look amazing! We have some little artists in our classroom... It looks like winter has started early this year. Please send your child to school in weather appropriate clothing. A reminder that we continue to have an outdoor recess unless the weather is colder than -20 degrees. Winter coats, snow pants, snow shoes, mittens/gloves, scarves and toques will help keep our little ones warm on the playground. Looking forward to another wonderful week ahead!

It was great meeting all of you last Thursday night. I hope you got a chance to see what we are up to in Room. 7. This week we have a few important deadlines: -Fluoride Varnish consent forms for grade 1's are due on September 17th.  -Book orders need to be in by the end of this week.  -Please review, sign and send back all of the forms that were sent home  this week.  This week we have new math groups and we have moved on from patterns to number sense. In Science, we are learning about our five senses. Ask your child to tell you what they are! We are working on a new poem using digraphs such as sh, th, ch, wh. Ask your child to tell you some words that start with those digraphs. Hope you all have a great week! 

Wow, we are already in the second week of September! Time is flying by and we are having so much fun in our classroom. Students have started to get into routines and are working hard on learning classroom expectations. We have done a lot of hard work over the last few weeks and I hope your child has shared some things with you. Reminders: -We have sent home school pictures. If you wish to place an order, the order forms are due by September 11th. -Scholastic book orders will be sent home soon so keep an eye out for those. You have the option of ordering online OR you may send me the order form and I can order them for you. -If your child is in grade 1 please remember to fill out and send back the dental forms if you wish for them to get a screening. -We have 'Meet the Teacher' night on Thursday, September 12th from 5:00-6:30pm.
